Scrap Basket (with leftover Cricut snowflake pieces!)

I have mentioned in a past post about a “Scrap Basket” that I stumbled across…I’m excited to share how I came to create this basket! J

For most of my gatherings these past few months, we created a winter card using one of the snowflakes from the Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge by Close To My Heart.  I was blessed to have a multitude of home parties, so that means I cut out a LOT of snowflakes! J

Here is the card we created (along with a coordinating 2 page layout J)…

and HERE is the scrap paper that was leftover after cutting the snowflakes…

It bothered me to throw this paper away – even though most of the paper was cut and not useable.  I know some of you are able to toss a sheet of paper away when it looks like this…not me.  I cut off the ends of the 2 sides and then looked at the negative space of the snowflakes wondering what I could do with them.  After a day of that “scrap” sheet sitting on my table…I would then throw it in the trash can since there was really nothing you could do with those inside pieces, right?

Well, that continued UNTIL…(drum roll please J )

ONE DAY – I was folding the paper and an idea came to me.

Why not cut out that extra inside of the snowflakes?  Could I turn it into “something”?

and then got some glue dots to glue the corners together!!!!

Hmm, that kind of looks like a basket!!! J

and make a handle…

This is really FUN!!!

Yayy!!! Look what we created!!!

What a FUN basket to add little treats too!!!
Here are three different ways to create these baskets…scrap baskets - all 3

I used this basket as a small gift to a first time workshop attendee!  I wanted to give her something because the rest of the attendees were part of my monthly club and I was giving them a small Christmas gift.

I hope this has inspired you and encouraged you to take a look at your leftover pieces! LOL!!! You never know what those SCRAPS may turn into!!! J

Happy Creating!!!!

3 Simple Christmas Cards

Good Morning!J

It is near the end of October, and I am a little sad.  Not quite sure if I am ready for winter to arrive quite yet – HOWEVER…right now, here 3 snowflakes - yellowin Pennsylvania – it is SNOWING….yes, I DID say SNOWING!!!  What Crazy weather we are having and in OCTOBER!!!  And the AMAZING part is – they say we are getting 6-10 inches of this SNOW today!!!!  Oh my!J

With that in mind, I thought I’d post 3 cards that I created recently that have the “winter” theme.

This past week, I went to a Ladies Day group at a local church where we did some card making.  I had 45min – 1 hour for them to create 3 cards, so I knew the cards had to be simple, but beautiful.

I went to my wonderful CTMH Sisters for some inspiration, and came away creating these 3 cards!

The first card on the left has been a favorite card that many of you may already recognize.  This is a card that we have been creating at a lot of my gatherings this fall season.

This is a FUN card that I created using our Wishes how to book.  The design did not stay the same as the original pattern shown on page 40 “Simple Expressions”, but I did start the card from there. J

I used the beautiful WONDERLAND level 2 paper pack.  I also used our FUN new “Snowflakes” stamp set!!!  This is a favorite of mine because it is a stamp set that coordinates with our Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge!!  I did not have to cut the snowflake out – the CRICUT does it for me!J  The Merry Christmas came from the stamp set called “A Holiday” – a GREAT Cricut compatible stamp set as well.

If you click on the picture to see more detail, you will notice we also used sandpaper to sand the chocolate cardstock.  The ladies loved each technique that was taught with each card.

Our chocolate striped ribbon is so beautiful, for this card I cut the 1” ribbon in half, so we could have the frayed look.  We then used Glitz Glitter Gel for the finishing touch. (I know I been using the glitz a lot lately – LOL!!  I just LOVE adding the glitz to add that extra sparkle and shine! LOL!!! J)

The next card we used a NEW stamp set…believe it or not, this was the FIRST time I stamped with this set!!!  “Remarkable Wreath” is one of the most popular selling stamp sets this year!  I was inspired by my friend and fellow consultant Audrey Key for this card.

This card was quite simple…but nice.  I used the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge to create the beautiful bracket (3 1/4”, <square4>, pg. 53) from Sweet Leaf cardstock.  We then used the corner rounder to round our 2 3/4” white daisy square.

Stamp sets used were “Remarkable Wreath” and “Holiday Commentary”.  We also used the Believe level 2 paper pack.  And of course…I had to use some of the beautiful RED Glitz Glitter Gel to add some berries to the branches. LOL!  (I promise, the next card does not have glitz!)  Ink colors that were used are CRANBERRY and DESERT SAND.

The final card we created was using one of my favorite stamp sets this Idea Book season.  The “Glory to God” stamp set.
Sonoma Glory to God wisemen card - khershberger
This card was inspired by  Jean Johnson’s artwork I saw on our consultant bulletin board – I LOVE our CTMH family!!  We truly ARE sisters at CTMH and share ideas, advice, artwork, etc. with each other. J

To create this card, we used two items…the Glory to God stamp set and the Sonoma Paper pack.  Can ANYONE tell me where the diamond strip at the bottom of the card came from?  Hmmm…I LOVE this extra that CTMH has tucked into each of our new LEVEL 2 paper packs!  Did you guess where it came from?  If you haven’t, take a look at this picture below…
Sonoma level 2 paper pack x7143b
Do you see it now?  YES – the diamond strip is called a “Zip Strip”!!!  There is a strip at the top of all of our designer papers!  Each zip strip has the paper kit name, item # and colors used in the kit printed on one side of this 1/2” strip.  The OTHER side of this “zip strip” is a BEAUTIFUL border design that you can use as part of your creations!!!  How COOL is that?!?!?!!!! J

I hope these cards get your “creative juices” flowing. J and that you are able to start creating for the upcoming holiday season!

Walking in a Winter WONDERLAND!

My last two items I created for the swap with the WONDERLAND paper pack were two cards…one clear card and one card using our NEW White Daisy Die-Cut card J

Here is the clear card I chose to create…using Clear Cards are SO much FUN!!  (Please don’t mind the picture taking quality…one thing that is difficult with clear cards is to NOT get your reflection in the card while you are trying to capture an image of it! J )
You have to think in a different way when creating with clear cards and it makes it so interesting! J  Why do you have to think differently?  If you haven’t created with the clear card, this may not make sense to you J.

Let me explain…you get to choose what section of your card to adhere your layers of paper to.  You don’t have to tape every piece of paper to the front or top of your card! With the card being CLEAR, you can see through the entire card!

For instance, the grey flannel square, 2 snowflakes that I cut out (prior to knowing we had a FABULOUS Cricut cartridge! LOL!!!)  and the 2 sparkle buttons from our Bling Assortment, are glued to the FRONT of this card.

I used CTMH’s Cocoa Embossing powder on the large snowflake and then cut that out.  I used Crystal Blue ink to stamp the smaller snowflake.  The silver glitz gel just adds an extra sparkle! J

The dotted paper from the Wonderland paper pack is glued to the inside, front of the card.  The scalloped crystal blue cardstock is glued to the inside back of the card?  Make sense? J  So, once your card is put together…the layers all match up, but have more of a 3D look!  FABULOUS! J

I did try and take a picture of this…it’s a boring picture (LOL!) but hopefully this will help you “make sense” of how you can layer your paper on a clear card! J

Close To My Heart carries 2 different types of card packs of Clear Cards.  Click here to see the 4 designs of clear cards that we carry – die cut card & rectangle in one pack, and circle cards and square cards in the 2nd pack.

My 2nd card is a card using a GREAT NEW stamp set called Bundled Buddies. J Isn’t this beaver Adorable???  You can check out the rest of his friends that come with this stamp set by clicking here! J  I can’t WAIT to use these critters for friends & family that have winter birthdays! J

I LOVE that CTMH is now selling two different designs of die-cut cards!!  If you have been with CTMH for a bit, you will remember when the white daisy die cut cards were first introduced in a promotion special J  Since that day, so many of us consultants have been using that card shape as a pattern and have been tracing the edge of the card onto our own cardstock and cutting it to create this design…LOL – I know we are diehards, aren’t we? J

The die-cut design cards have a unique and different appeal – I love it! J I thought this design would add FUN to a card stamped with the Bundled Buddies Beaver.

I used the Cricut AP cartridge for the bracket shape that he is stamped in.  I also created the small scalloped oval with the AP.  Now, please don’t look at my coloring…I know I NEED LESSONS! J LOL!!  I used our waterbrush along with our ink pads to attempt my coloring.  The colors used were grey flannel, crystal blue and chocolate.

Take a look at the sign holder stuck in the snow J.  Can you tell where I got my “ribbon” from?  You probably noticed that it’s not “ribbon like” but rather looks like paper, and it is!  I cut one of the zip-strips (the ½ inch designer strip that comes on EACH of our NEW 12x12 designer papers!) in half and “tied” my ribbon! J

I LOVE these new stick pins…so many options to use them.  Also, I used Liquid Appliqué to add some snow to the card.  Adding the stardust glitz glitter gel to the “snow” made it look more real – or so my husband thought ;).

I will include my recipes for these 2 cards below, in case you would like to create similar cards like these.

Have fun as YOU create your cards, layouts, etc!  For me…creating is my “out”, my time to relax and enjoy the gift God has blessed me with in creating!  I hope you are able to enjoy a “creating” time today no matter what hobby you enjoy! J

Blessings to you!!!
